![]() In this paper, we aim to fill this gap and report a study with two VR application scenarios that compared four of the most common and highest frame rates currently available (60, 90, 120, and 180 frames per second (fps)) to explore their effect on users' experience, performance, and SS symptoms. To our knowledge, limited research on frame rate in VR HMDs is available. Both VR users and developers can choose a suitable frame rate if they are aware of the benefits of different frame rates in user experience, performance, and simulator sickness (SS). ![]() VR users and content developers often face a choice because having high frame rate content and the hardware that supports it comes with higher costs and other trade-offs (such as heavier and bulkier HMDs). Today's HMDs come with different refresh rates ranging from 20Hz to 180Hz, which determines the actual maximum frame rate perceived by users' naked eyes. The refresh rate of virtual reality (VR) head-mounted displays (HMDs) has been growing rapidly in recent years because of the demand to provide higher frame rate content as it is often linked with a better experience. Besides revealing the effect of “On-Screen” elements on PX such as game interface, mechanics and gameplay, the study also presents promising findings for the effect of “Off-Screen” aspects such as the environmental and social factors. For this purpose, a qualitative multi-method study based on game platform diversity is designed to measure player experience with 8 users in two different gaming platforms which is based on mobile and full body gesture based interaction. This study aims to test the proposed framework in a multi-platform game setting and thus seek ways to contribute to the establishment of a new comprehensive analysis framework to understand multi-platform PX. In this context, this study focuses on the qualitative analysis of multi-platform PX through a proposed playability heuristics framework derived from relevant literature. Majority of those studies presented a set of playability heuristics on theoretical basis, which still required to be tested through empirical research in various gaming platforms. However, limited number of studies investigated PX and playability in detail in order to create an analysis framework for entertainment systems by referring to former UX and usability methodologies. Therefore, it is critical to understand the nature of PX through user research. PX can be inspected in various gaming platforms, which present diverse interaction methods through different peripherals, consequently uncovering the complex nature of video games. Now, we've updated the piece to add a few more.Video games offer new perspectives for discussions and studies on user experience, which results in a change of the relevant terms in the context of gaming replacing ‘usability’ with ‘playability’ and ‘user experience’ (UX) with ‘player experience’ (PX). In the original version of this list, we included some of the best examples. This is why there have been plenty of titles that allow PC and Xbox One users to interact. The people at Microsoft seem to be particularly fond of the idea. So many big games have welcomed the chance to allow people using different systems to play with or against one another. Updated NovemBy Ben Jessey: While crossplay has been around for some time, it has really started to become more common in the past few years. ![]() For those who have friends on other platforms or wish to play with a wider range of people, here are some fantastic crossplay titles that work between the Xbox One and PC. There is a solid selection of titles that support Xbox One and PC crossplay, but it can be difficult to choose which one to play. ![]() RELATED: Lesser-Known Original Xbox Games That Need More LoveĬrossplay has been a major push from Microsoft since the last half of the eighth console generation. Crossplay refers to a video game allowing players from different platforms to play together simultaneously. With online multiplayer games becoming much more common as time continues, the demand for crossplay games between platforms has never been larger.
